Happy Spring! Winter is now past, and with its passing I had hoped to be welcoming some baby bunnies. My does, however, had other plans. So sadly, I don’t have any bunnies for Easter. This happens when the doe decides that the weather is not right for having babies or when she just doesn’t feel like raising a litter. I think the latter is what happened, as my barn is heated in the winter. Oh well, I will try for a late spring/summer litter. We did have a blizzard the week before spring started. But everyone stayed nice and warm; including my new chicks which hatched on March 8th.
There was a show down in Castle Rock this month, but I decided not to go as that particular show is stressful for both the rabbits and me. In April there will be one show; the Netherland Dwarf National Show. While I will not be showing any rabbits there, I hope to get a replacement doe for Judy Hops who is retiring this spring. Judy Hops did well on the table last year, however, I found out this year that she lacks correct bone structure for posing. Why was this not seen earlier, I do not know. But with that knowledge I think it would be best if she went back to being a house rabbit. Not to worry, the bone issue is not a health concern, just incorrect for showing. Well, that pretty much wraps up this month; so until next time, happy hopping!
