Here is an update  on the Surprise Easter Litter. We had a snow storm yesterday, nothing out of the norm for spring time here. I got about 6″ of snow on the level, and had 60+ mph winds. Inside the barn, it was warm and not drafty. Even with this comfy set up, Judy Hops decided to sleep in the nest box with her babies. While this is not usually a problem with a careful mother; Judy however, lacks the carefulness. Sadly, when I went out this morning, I discovered that the kits had been sat on and did not make it through the night. Rabbits do not sit on their babies like chickens, so when a kit gets sat on, it is a lack of carefulness on the mother’s part. For those who are concerned, I did try to revive the babies, but without success. While this wasn’t a great start to my day, I am looking forward to breeding Onyx who is a careful mother, and hopefully finding a good replacement for Judy Hops at the Nationals this Saturday.
